Which should you choose?
If you want the most detections, the biggest species list, and a yard's worth of data you can export and share with researchers, buy the PUC. It is the better instrument, it costs the same, and you can have one this week.
ChirpSense is the better thing to live with. You glance at a small display on the windowsill and it already knows who's singing, no app opened, no Wi-Fi required, no recording leaving the house. That is the one thing the PUC cannot do, and it is the only thing ChirpSense does.
One more outdoor option deserves a line. The Terra Station ($329, Wi-Fi required, also BirdNET) streams your yard live and its Roku app can put detections on your TV. That still means the TV on, the app open, and the audio on Terra's servers. ChirpSense is the screen, on the sill, with nothing to open.
